IMC 2023 WAS A BIG DEAL
Kudos to Shaggy, Sharon Burke and Judith Bodley the organizers of the Island Music Conference. They brought members of the Caribbean music community together to network and learn from international music and media professionals. Flying into Kingston for the IMC were representatives from entities such as YouTube, iHeart Media, Pandora, Audiomack, Sony Music Publishing, Rolling Stone Magazine, BBC Radio 1Xtra, The Grammys, BMI, Ineffable Records, VP Records, 300Studios, and more. The conference also had several participants from a number of Caribbean countries in attendance. IMC Chairman Shaggy did a masterful job as conference host and panelist for several topics discussed over the five day event (February 8-12). Shaggy was ably supported by Gramps Morgan who performed, participated as a panelist, and was busy in many group discussions with fellow artistes in between conference sessions.
Many interesting topics were covered in the IMC 2023 panel discussions, such as “THE DSP STRATEGY”, “COPYRIGHTS, PUBLISHING & ROYALTIES”, “MASTERING MEDIA”, “THE GLOBAL INFLUENCE OF CARIBBEAN MUSIC”, “PROS & CONS OF OWNING YOUR MASTERS” and “CONTRACTS”.
